Winter Harbor Light
- Mark Island
- Winter Harbor, ME 04693
Built in 1857, Winter Harbor Light is a brick lighthouse standing on Mark's Island in Winter Harbor, ME. Still standing beside the light are the keeper's house, boathouse, and an oil house. Much information about Maine lighthouses is gathered from the keeper's logbooks, however, the logbooks for Winter Harbor Light which dated back to 1856, went missing from the island around 1983. The lighthouse served as an official navigation guide for 76 years, from January 1857, to August 1933. Winter Harbor Light and Mark's Island provide priceless views of Schoodic Point, Cadillac Mountain, and the islands of Frenchman’s Bay. The lighthouse is not open to the public; it is best seen by boat. It can also be seen distantly from the roadside on the Schoodic Peninsula.
