LD 1779 An Act To Increase Safety, Ensure Efficient Operation and Improve Traffic Flow on the Maine Turnpike by Requiring All Electronic Toll Collection at New and Reconstructed Toll Facilities, Rep. Blume (D-York)

This bill would have required the Maine Turnpike Authority to install and implement only an electronic toll collection system for any newly constructed or reconstructed toll facility on the turnpike, specifically in York. MTA testified against this bill as 26% of toll revenues come from cash and without cash tolls available, it would be very difficult and costly to collect these tolls from out-of-state and out-of-country drivers and much would never be collected, thereby decreasing the amount of money available for road repairs and other projects. This bill was killed.
