LD 1752 An Act To Amend the Laws Governing Pilotage Requirements for Passenger Ferry Service between Maine and Nova Scotia, Sen. Dion (D-Cumberland)

This bill, which was killed in committee, would have amended the pilotage requirements for vessels providing regularly scheduled passenger ferry service between Bar Harbor and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. There were nearly 30 testifiers on this issue. Those in favor noted the long history of safety when there wasn’t a pilot requirement. Those opposed questioned the wisdom of repealing a law that went into effect just six years ago which was designed to protect travelers and the environment.
