This bill would create welcome centers which can receive adult education grants and would create local community planning support programs and vocation-specific English-language & workforce training program for two years. The intended funding for 2019-20 is $75,000 in ongoing funds to the adult education program for the expansion of Lewiston's Welcome Center Initiative; $85,000 for grants to adult ed for English-language in communities with immigrant populations; $40,000 to manage newly settled immigrant populations or to attract immigrant populations; $160,000 for grants for English-language instruction & vocational training for 200 participants. This bill was passed but awaits funding in committee. It will be finally acted upon if there is a Special Session of the 128th Legislature.
