Maine’s Greater Portland and Casco Bay Region

Catch some local flavor in and around Portland

Maine’s Greater Portland and Casco Bay Map

Maine’s Greater Portland & Casco Bay region stretches east to Casco Bay, west to Sebago Lake, south to Scarborough, and north to Freeport. It is home to Maine's largest metropolitan area. See the highlighted area on the map on this page for reference.

Situated on the southern coast of Maine, the Greater Portland area is a hub of arts, entertainment and dining. With a natural deepwater harbor in Casco Bay that doesn’t freeze, the port of Portland is also a destination for over 50 cruise ships every year between June and November.

Once called Machigonne by Native Americans, Portland was developed into a trading and fishing mecca in 1632 by the British. The city, which has survived a series of fires, still sports a bustling waterfront and a busy shopping district. Portland has been dubbed “The San Francisco of the East” for its cultural diversity and abundance of restaurants.

Catch some local flavor in Maine’s Greater Portland and Casco Bay region:

My favorite spot in the Greater Portland & Casco Bay region is Downtown Portland. It's a great all around city that something for everyone. Fantastic locals, amazing restaurants, pet friendly, and different opportunities around every corner for another adventure to begin.
