About the rental and property:
3-BR, 2-bath private apartment, handicap-accessible, on 3.5 acres with a gazebo, wooded point and sand beach

Welcome to Fish Point!

Our home was built in 2002, on a 3-1/2 acre property with a fascinating Revolutionary/1812 War era history. The house is right along a quiet road on the back side of Narraguagus Bay, just minutes from Milbridge's center. It's a great road for scenic walks & biking. Cross the broad field behind our house, and the first thing you'll come to is our gazebo overlooking the bay.  Walk a few steps farther and you arrive at the footbridge leading to our own wooded peninsula, used only by our family and guests, which gives you 270-degree views of the ocean, bay, town, and spectacular sunsets across the water. Enjoy the sights from the trail, the benches, or take a meal out to the picnic table!

A set of stairs leads you down to the beach, one of the very rare sand beaches on the Maine coast — along with the large boulders characteristic of the area.

We're near the town marina, and kayak and bike rentals are nearby.

We live in the adjoining home space, made sonically and visually private from the 1300 SF apartment. The rental apartment is all on the ground floor, with its own private entrances, garden, and patio/terrace facing the water. The facility is handicap-accessible, with wide doorways and hall, and flooring of tile, wood and low-nap carpeting — smooth surfaces for walkers or wheelchairs.

Bedrooms are large for this part of Maine. One has a king bed and the other two have queen beds. The King BR has its own en suite bathroom with shower. The other two BR's share a bathroom with a large tiled shower. One Queen BR has a lovely windowed nook with desk, ideal for working from home. The fully appointed kitchen has excellent appliances, including dishwasher and high quality LP gas range/oven. And of course a lobster pot! Dishes, silverware, cookware, etc., are provided.

The dining area is off the large living room, and the apartment has its own washer & dryer. Decor and furnishings are charming, restful — and unique, not off-the-rack.
We call our rental business THE "GUST" HOUSE, after the winds here on the coast. Come and be our GustHouse Guest!

Available for vacation, retreat and longer-term rentals, offered & managed by THE GUST HOUSE LLC.

Other amenities:

  • Flat-screen television with DishTV and Roku,  Netflix, Amazon Prime TV, internet music programs and other bundled services.
  • Blazing fast internet with StarLink, plus a high-speed DSL backup.
  • Very good audio system.
  • Cell services have always worked fine in our location.
  • Small library, games and puzzles for rainy days, etc.

Since acquiring this home in April 2014, we've been gradually restoring the lovely garden beds that surround the house. They combine native and wild plants with more formal plantings. The apartment has its own "secret garden" area, BBQ grill, and private patio overlooking the fields and bay.

Though 2014 was our first year at this home, we also owned a vacation cottage in Milbridge from 2008-22, so we've been renting to travelers since 2009. We've gotten raves from our renters at both properties!

Since 2020, we have favored longer-term rentals, and now generally require a minimum stay of 30-90 days. (Ask, though, in case your timing needs might fit into our ongoing schedule.) Our place is a favorite with traveling medical and business personnel, artists of all stripes, and individuals or families pursuing education in, or relocation to, our region.

If you are traveling for more than 28 days for business, relocation or formal education purposes, you may be exempt from the 9% State lodging tax.

LOCATION, LOCATION: Guests often tell us how much they enjoy Milbridge as a home base, and how happy they are about our location along the coast, since we're about equidistant from Mt. Desert Island (Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor) and the farthest-east coastal towns like Lubec and Eastport — and Campobello Island! Bring passports for Campobello; it's Canada. It's easy to make a day or half-day trip to these famous, fascinating vacation spots from our place, and also to visit the Canadian mainland.

Plan to enjoy ACADIA NATIONAL PARK! The main part of the Park is on Mount Desert Island, about an hour from us. But a less-known section, Schoodic Point, is just about 25 minutes away, and is quieter, fewer crowds, same breath-taking views. Schoodic Point, the part of Acadia that Mainers tend to prefer, also has a fine information and conference center and campground, a lovely picnic area, and is near many art and craft studios.

Our guests' vacation and retreat rental fees help to support the work of Sunrise County Arts Institute, the small Maine company we founded in 2014 as a resource for quality music, theater, writing and visual arts activities in Milbridge and the DownEast/Acadia area.  Since 2020, SCAI has continued to offer its work, primarily online and in warm-weather outdoor events.

TRAVELERS WITH PETS: We run as allergy-free a home as possible, for ourselves as well as our guests. We do ask guests to arrange for their animals to stay at home. But a single well-behaved HYPOALLERGENIC-ONLY dog may be considered. (These are dogs with hair rather than fur/dander; for example, Havanese, bichon, poodle, Maltese.) We have a sweet Havanese ourselves. Extra security deposit and/or cleaning surcharge may be requested if a pet is approved.

Rates and availability

If you've landed here through a friend's recommendation, or our Facebook page, TheGustHouse, you don't need to go through the vacation rental platforms to book your stay and pay their extra fees.

Please contact us through this link

Meanwhile, you can see our updated calendar and more photos at: VRBO or AIRBNB

(Do not go by the rate quotes on the sites. Each of them bundles & presents costs differently than the other, and adds in its own charges to hosts and travelers. Ask us!)

We look forward to welcoming you to our Paradise on Narraguagus Bay!
