Statewide nonprofit Maine Fiberarts supports Maine fiber art, craft, farm, school, and business—through education, display, celebrations and networking—both within Maine and beyond. The fiber arts include spinning, weaving, papermaking, felting, quilting, knitting, embroidery and much more. We support the entire sector—from raw farm material supplier through finished art and craft maker—through regional tours, gallery exhibitions, hands-on workshops, web presence, our statewide online Maine Fiberarts (Digital) Tour (www.mainefiberarts.org) guiding visitors to artist’s studios and farms, educational venues, fiber processing mills, related organizations, galleries and museums, services and equipment, materials shop and more. Our work involves economic development, cultural tourism, preservation of art and craft, and community building. Our goals include fostering greater opportunities for artists and producers to exhibit work, to make sales, to work as apprentices and mentors, to teach craftmaking skills, and to become better connected with each other and with revenue sources! We represent art to the public at our Topsham gallery with exhibitions every three months, and to curators through our Photo Libraries; we host gatherings, talks and workshops; maintain a database of 3400 resources for networking and referrals; communicate with an opt-in email list of over 1400; promote fiber through our websites: www.mainefiberarts.org and www.mainefiberfolio.com; and update our online statewide Bulletin to alert and inform members and the public to opportunities, events, workshops and learning opportunities.
