Fort St. George
- Sabino Head Road
- Phippsburg, ME 04562
Built in 1607, Fort St. George was the site of an early English settlement. The first sailing ship built in British North America, the Virginia, was constructed there in 1607. Archaeological digs in 1997 have unearthed remains and artifacts from the fort, located at the former parade grounds of the later-built Fort Baldwin. (Photograph courtesy of Instagram user @cronima)
