Located in Fort Kent, ME, Fort Kent is located where the Fish River joins the St. John River. The town of Fort Kent was named after the fort itself, and was erected in 1841 around the time of the so-called Aroostook War - a boundary dispute arising from rival lumbering operations in Maine and New Brunswick. The fort is named after the then-governor of Maine, Edward Kent.(Photographs courtesy of Instagram's @justpitters)
