Maine is home to a vibrant craft beer industry with more than 90 breweries large and small now in operation throughout the State. A great time to sample many of our fine Maine beers, ciders and mead is at Acadia's Oktoberfest held annually on Columbus Day Weekend and located at Smugglers' Den Campground in Southwest Harbor surrounded by beautiful Acadia National Park.

We recommend you make a weekend of your visit to Oktoberfest enjoying the hospitality in some of our many available lodgings and restaurants, visiting the Park either on foot, bicycle or boat and especially tasting the brews of Oktoberfest.

Oktoberfest begins on Friday evening October 6 with a wine tasting (includes hors d'oeuvres) and continues on Saturday with beer from 25 to 30 of Maine's finest brewers. Other Saturday activities at the campground include music by popular local bands, great Maine food and recently added games including a keg toss and beer(less) pong.

Downtown in Southwest Harbor the Crown Vics will be playing on Friday night on the Village Green and 11th Hour Farming Artists will be holding a large pumpkin carving demonstration. On Saturday the Island Arts Association will hold a craft fair on the Pemetic School Green.

Southwest Harbor is home to an excellent wine shop in the village, Sawyer's Specialties. Visit The Liquor Locker at Southwest Harbor Shops to take home some of the great brews you tasted at Oktoberfest.

Sunday you may like to stop at Mount Desert Island's local brewery, Atlantic Brewing in Town Hill. On Sunday, the brewery holds its annual Belt Sander Races. Competition is fierce and fun!

Tickets for Oktoberfest are available in advance or at the gate. Admission for the Wine Tasting is $20, and on Saturday, beer drinkers' admission is $35 and includes a four ounce souvenir beer glass and unlimited beer sampling.  PLEASE TASTE RESPONSIBLY! Non-drinker admission is $10. Food may be purchased separately. There is no entrance fee for the downtown activities.

The entire Island of Mount Desert will be a busy place over Columbus Day Weekend so plan ahead for your accommodations!

Oktoberfest is sponsored by the Southwest Harbor & Tremont Chamber of Commerce. For more information about the area, lodgings and activities and on Oktoberfest visit our websites: http://www.acadiaoktoberfest.com and http://www.acadiachamber.com
