Maine's Lakes & Mountains

The Lakes and Mountains Region in western Maine boasts some of the state’s highest peaks, including the Bigelow Range and Mahoosuc Mountains, and hundreds of glacial lakes.

Outdoor recreation is this area’s specialty, offering visitors some of Maine’s most popular ski resorts and community mountains, as well as many opportunities for hiking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, bird watching and snowmobiling.

Less well-known is the arts activity that flourishes here. John Muir Publications named Lewiston-Auburn one of the “Best Small Arts Communities in the Country” for the number and diversity of its offerings.
