Kennebec & Moose River Valleys

Hiking From the capital city of Augusta north through its forested mountains, rivers and lakes to Canada, the 100-mile long Kennebec & Moose River Valleys region is rich in natural beauty, history and culture.

Here you can see spectacular waterfalls, hike the famous Appalachian Trail, bike the East Coast Greenway, tour historic forts and museums, sample traditional country fairs and hip, artsy theater, and enjoy four seasons of festivals and outdoor recreation.

The Old Canada Road (Route 201) is a National Scenic Byway and follows Native American river trading routes from Solon and Bingham through West Forks to the Quebec border – a great way to experience the character and breadth of the region, and spot a moose now and then.
